The essay exploits the published memoirs of an Italian emigrant in order to inquiry on the modalities of the reconstruction of past experiences concerning emigration and the assessment of family relationships. The role of the correspondence and of written and printed supports in the reconstruction performed in the memoirs is evident, and is connected with other experiences affecting the reconstruction itself, from movies to novels.
