This paper article aims to analyse Tanizaki Jun’ichirō’s conception of the arts, the performing arts in particular, and some crucial aspects, theatrical as well as aesthetic, - body and training, body and environment, humility and dedication, the value of the text and the role of its interpreter, stage presence and self-awareness, the destiny and many facets of the arts – that Tanizaki recognizes in the way of art (geidō) of the Japanese tradition, such as we can read in particular in his essay Geidan (Gei ni tsuite, 1933).
