The work discusses Günter Grass' writing strategy in his novel "Im Krebsgang" and focusses on how memory discourses and communication patterns rise from the structure of the text. What becomes manifest is most of all the clash between family narratives and istitutional as well as historical memory, analysed by means of the categories provided on collective and communicative memory by Jan Assmann and Harald Welzer.
