“Cartografie” del viaggio. Sulle relazioni fra la ‘Mappamundi’ di Fra Mauro e il “Milione”.

Il saggio affronta il tema del rapporto tra testi e immagini nella cartografia tardomedievale: il caso delle didascalie che accompagnano il Mappamondo del camaldolese Fra’ Mauro (metà del XV sec.) funziona da pretesto per saggiare fisonomia e trattamento delle fonti utilizzate dal cartografo (e particolarmente il «Milione»), e dall’altra per definire le relazioni cognitive e culturali che legano la “pictura” cartografica alle informazioni testuali. // This article is concerned with the relationship between the text and the image in late medieval cartography. The captions that accompany the World Map made by Fra Mauro of Murano in the middle of the Fifteenth century have been used as a pretext, on the one hand, to study the physionomy and the treatment of the sources used by the cartographer (especially the «Milione») and, on the other, to define the cognitive and cultural relations that link the actual map with the textual informations.
