The volume contains a wide range of essays, papers and materials that have been developed out of the diverse international and interdisciplinary academic and artistic initiatives by Ca' Foscari University in Venice over the great Kleist Year 2011. They include contributions on Kleist's image of Italy and his attempts to locate himself somewhere, on the rhetoric of education and the theory of money, on his anecdotes, on the text "On the Marionette Theatre" and its continuations in modernity. Another focus is on the reception and staging practice of Kleist's dramas in Italy. In particular, the works of the Italian director Cesare Lievi and the theatre photographs of Maurizio Buscarino are documented in detail.
