This article studies the topic of female self-consciousness about the condition of women in the gulag referring to the reasons of resistance and survival in the concentration camp and to the violence in and of the concentration regime. From the study of a wide selection of memories of former deportees, it is possible to gather similarities and specific tracts in the representation of their experience. These mark the difference between female and male memories, especially when it comes to the analysis of the meaning of system degeneration, to provide evidence for it, and to prove the trueness and the truthfulness of this evidence. When it is time to study the survival strategies, the importance of female solidarity bounds, the importance of memory, of family love and the preservation of the value of motherhood, the ability of, not only preserving the memories of the concentration camp, but also of making the memory in the lagers a means of preservation of human dignity. In the outlook of the studies about the gulag, the memories of the survivors have had, until now, a basic importance as documents; but the methodological research on the particularities of the evidence is still in its early stages (approached only by Irina Šcerbakova). The current study aims to propose some suggestions in this direction.
