The issue n.7 of "English Literature on "The Representation of the Wonderful and the Preternatural between the Gothic Novel and Fin-de-Siècle Literature" considers the ways in which English and American writers from the early Gothic to the long Fin de siècle dealt with the marvelous, the wonderful, the preternatural, the monstrous, and the 'fantastic' in their novels and prose works. The articles collected and edited in this issue range from the role of sound effects in Walpole's "Castle of Otranto" to the Gothic sublime in Ann Radcliffe; from the representation of the monstrous in Stoker's "Dracula" to the aesthetisation of the fantastic by Stevenson and other writers, and the complicated match between realism and the preternatural in late Victorian ghost stories.

The articles collected and edited in this issue range from the role of sound effects in Walpole's "Castle of Otranto" to the Gothic sublime in Ann Radcliffe; from the representation of the monstrous in Stoker's "Dracula" to the aesthetisation of the fantastic by Stevenson and other writers, and the complicated match between realism and the preternatural in late Victorian ghost stories.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
