The filmic device is currently the focus of a movement that expands its scope, expression and relevance. For this reason, cinema and contemporary art offer many examples of how the cinematic instance is associated with many different media forms and with different socio-cultural practices. These include images, still or moving, carried out for control purposes, which seem to be particularly significant in the present context. An analysis of these visual forms can thus trace the logic that characterizes the supervisory arrangements, understanding the influences on the subjects and the implications in relation to space. Two case studies are particularly interesting in this regard: Shopping Mall by Jamie Wagg and Die Schöpfer des Einkaufswelten by Harun Farocki. These works focus the observation on the ‘society of discipline’ and lend themselves to an interpretation, putting the idea at the centre of the trace. This notion is then taken as the key to the identify the corpus; declined in the double variant ‘empirical trace’ and ‘filmic trace’. It forms indeed the conceptual background in which it is possible to identify the dynamics of presence-absence, dissemination- fixing, territorialization-deterritorialization underlying the monitoring mechanisms
