The article analyzes an Ottoman poetry book written in Greek characters. The focus on the analysis lies on the question of the relation between Asik (folk) poetry and Ottoman lyric poetry of the élites. The fact that the poet was Christian but dealt with Islamic forms of writing requires a cross-cultural approach including language, literary form and tradition and gender issues.
