We may consider, today, the “risk” as a real philosophical category. The way in which the Greek man began to approach the risk of living coincides with the development of the techne. And the techne measures its strength with the risk only if the risk has been determined and so transformed in “danger”. The danger can be reckoned, controlled, managed. In the thought of Plato, we ﬁnd the ﬁrst evident tracks of this interpretation, necessary to understand the ancient and the contemporary way of life of the West World. Here the necessity of risking is absolutely in evidence.
