„Gefährliche Nähe“. Die Rezeption der mittelalterlichen und frühneuzeitlichen weiblichen Mystik im Radikalpietismus und in der antipietistischen Polemik

Among the most frequent accusations against Pietism, and especially against radical Pietism by its opponents (Feustking, Colberg, et al.), is the "dangerous proximity" to the female mysticism of the Middle Ages and to the mystics of the early modern era (e.g. Angela of Foligno, Catherine of Siena, Catherine of Genoa, Teresa of Avila, Catherine Paluzzi, Julia of Mark, among others). Based on the works of G. Arnold and J. H. Reitz, this article examines which aspects of the spirituality and mystical experience of these women were actually received in radical Pietism (Lutheran and Reformed), which of the works by and about these mystics were known to the contemporary German public, and through which channels. Particular attention is devoted to the analysis of the paratexts of the German editions of the writings of these authors or of the texts written about them and translated into German. The goal was to investigate: 1) the extent and manner of reception of the spiritual experiences of medieval and early modern women mystics in the gendered constructions of radical pietist culture (in terms of role division, limits, and modes of representation); 2) what role was attributed to these women mystics within the gendered constructions conducted by the orthodoxies in the struggle against radical pietism.

Tra le accuse più frequenti contro il Pietismo, e specialmente contro il Pietismo radicale da parte dei suoi oppositori (Feustking, Colberg, et al.), c'è la "pericolosa prossimità" con la mistica femminile del Medioevo e alle mistiche dell'inizio dell'epoca moderna (es: Angela di Foligno, Caterina da Siena, Caterina da Genova, Teresa d'Avila, Caterina Paluzzi, Giulia di Marco, tra le altre). A partire soprattutto dalle opere di G. Arnold e J. H. Reitz, questo articolo esamina quali aspetti della spiritualità e dell'esperienza mistica di queste donne furono effettivamente recepiti nel Pietismo radicale (luterano e riformato), quali delle opere di e su queste mistiche erano note al pubblico tedesco contemporaneo, e attraverso quali canali. Particolare attenzione è dedicata all'analisi dei paratesti delle edizioni tedesche degli scritti di queste autrici o dei testi scritti su di loro e tradotti in tedesco. L’obiettivo è stato quello di indagare: 1) l'estensione e le modalità di ricezione delle esperienze spirituali delle donne mistiche medievali e della prima modernità nelle costruzioni di genere della cultura pietista radicale (in termini di divisione dei ruoli, limiti e modalità di rappresentazione); 2) quale ruolo fu attribuito a queste donne mistiche all'interno delle costruzioni di genere condotte dalle ortodossie nella lotta contro il pietismo radicale.
