The essay presents intercultural communication, i.e. a double phenomenon, because it deals with the formae mentis of all the interlocutors involved in the communicative exchange, as well as the tools of human communication (linguistic codes, non linguistic codes, pragmatic and intercultural aspects). On this basis, the article aims at presenting a model of observation and description of the intercultural communication and a research protocol allowing to investigate Italy and North America.
