Big Data per l’analisi della maturità di una destinazione turistica. Una prospettiva spaziale innovativa sul turismo urbano

The expression «less is more» is sometimes true, most of all in the field of tourism, in which a high number of arrivals in the same place is not always synonym of high quality services. This is especially true for urban tourism. Not to mention the situation in Venice (please refer to Salvatore Settis, «Se Venezia muore», 2014), prime example of this issue, an always increasing number of civil protests and negative comments on the strong impact of tourism on urban territory are to be registered in the last days, especially in Barcelona and Amsterdam, cities that only a few years ago considered themselves not likely to follow in «venezialand» footsteps. The strength of modern tourism on European urban destinations is becoming more and more difficult to oversee (activities and groups of people) and operate (rules and laws) and endangers normal life in cities. Our goal is to offer an innovative spatial perspective on tourism effects and fruition of Antwerp (Belgium), Bolzano (Italy) and Krakow (Poland).
