The Italian universities involved in the training of future social workers, as well as many of the institutions that provide social services, have faced the Covid-19 pandemic mainly through the transition from face-to-face to remote activities (think of online lessons and remote working). In this scenario, one of the most serious problems has been ensuring the learning of practical skills that require educational initiatives in the field, such as in the case of internships. The paper puts forward some results of research carried out with the students of the degree course in Sciences of Society and Social Service of «Ca’ Foscari» University, Venice, aimed at understanding the strengths, limits and potentialities inherent in projects in which the trainee carries out their activities in institutional contexts grappling with the challenges posed by the health, economic and social emergency triggered by the pandemic. A situation that involves significant organisational changes and with respect to the requests for help from the population, but also has important repercussions with reference to the methods and tools used by the professional.
