Tomba 13: una sepoltura inusuale

Among the burials recognized in S. Lorenzo cemetery we found evidence of a so called deviant burial or, at least, unusual burial: the tomb of an infant lying in supine position with other scattered human bone remains. Above the skeleton of the child we recorded the almost exclusive presence of long bones of adults, whereas a sort of “bed” made of non adult skeletal fragments formed a peculiar feature under him. The careful and purposeful arrangement of the fragments and the selection of various skeletal parts do not represent a “reduction” of earlier burials, but a voluntary, careful and accurate deposition of human bones that were used as a sort of burial coffin.
