"Munojat Yulchieva, Selected Pieces: Classical Music of Central Asia"

Scientific liner notes for the booklet of the new recording by the great Uzbek diva Munojat Yulchieva, entitled: Munojat Yulchieva, "Selected Pieces. Classical Music of Central Asia" (Felmay, Torino, 2023, CD: 8226). The liner notes begins with the definition of maqām Art music and the meanings of the term maqām. It moves, then, to the specific maqom that flourished in Central Asia and to the very peculiar Uzbek-Tajik Shash Maqom. It focuses, then, on the vocal genre gazal, very present in the recording, a genre at the same time musical and poetical, born to be sung, that stretches in all the vast Persian language culture area. After this contextualisation, I take into exam the relationship between Munajot and her teacher and mentor Shavkat Mirzaev and the stylistic choices that marked her career. I move then on the description and analyses of the music instruments played in the recording, to their soloists, and to the musicological description and analyses of the eleven single tracks.

Si concentra, poi, sul genere vocale gazal, molto presente nella registrazione, un genere allo stesso tempo musicale e poetico, nato per essere cantato, che si estende in tutta la vasta area culturale di lingua persiana. Dopo questa contestualizzazione, prendo in esame il rapporto tra Munajat e il suo maestro e mentore Shavkat Mirzaev e le scelte stilistiche che hanno segnato la sua carriera. Passo poi alla descrizione e all'analisi degli strumenti musicali suonati nella registrazione, ai loro solisti e alla descrizione e analisi musicologica degli undici singoli brani.
