“Hijikata Tatsumi and Murobushi Kō: Out of Dance, Out of Existence (Some Reflections on Dance Politics)”

When we take a step in dance, does it mean that we are entering a sphere or dimension outside the space, outside the time established by society? Is it possible to create a dance, which does not obey to the system, that is to say an anti-systemic dance? These and other questions come to mind, when we think about butō or any other dance, which attempts to mould the corporeal material  while avoiding shape, form or linear dynamics  and is centred on a body that gestates social and/or political criticism. This unrevised essay (exhibited, alongside other writings, during the Festival “‘Soto’ no sen’ya ichiya 2013”, Yokohama Akarenga, 19-24 November 2013) displays some reflections on the dance explored by Murobushi Kō and his interrogations concerning the relationship between dance and the “outside” (soto).
