The Anatolian hieroglyphic script is an anomaly in the history of writing system not only in that it is a second writing system but furthermore, a pictorial script introduced into a cultural context which has been been using an abstract writing system. As both script are structurally similar, one might suppose that the motivation behind introducing the second writing system was at least partially connected to its iconic character. This article explores the relationship between script and image, possible readership and levels of readability.

Abstract
