This study delves into the role of individual ambidexterity (IA) in enhancing job performance within dynamic business environments. Individual ambidexterity, embodying the blend of explorative and exploitative capabilities, is increasingly recognized as a valuable asset for employees facing complex and varied tasks. Grounding our investigation in a cognitive approach, we conceptualize IA as the integration of these dual capabilities, which fosters adaptability, innovation, and efficient task execution. However, the translation of IA into superior job performance is nuanced, influenced significantly by the social context within which individuals operate. Specifically, our research highlights the critical impact of identification processes—both relational identification with leaders and collective identification with peers—on the efficacy of IA in promoting job performance.
