“Torino: un profilo etnografico” a cura di Carlo Capello e Giovanni Semi

Gathering research on a range of social groups and urban spaces, this book offers a detailed and nuanced portrait of the transformations that have reshaped the city of Turin since the 1990s. Certain cities, at various points in time, have found themselves at the focus of sustained ethnographic attention, notably Chicago during the 1920s and 1930s or, in the case of Italy, Naples during the late twentieth century. The last decade or so has also seen the publication of a number of urban ethnography readers in English based on extracts from studies of mainly North American cities, for example Ethnography and the City: Readings on Doing Urban Fieldwork (edited by Richard Ocejo, Routledge, 2013). It is extremely rare, however, to come across a multi-authored book that attempts such a kaleidoscopic view of a single city from an ethnographic perspective.
