La corrispondenza di Agostino Chigi nell'Archivio di Stato di Siena (Notarile Antecosimiano, 937): commento al testo

The paper offers a linguistic, historical and philological commentary of more than 80 letters by Agostino Chigi, recently edited by I. Ait and A. Modigliani. The letters, preserved in the Archive of Siena (Notarile Antecosimiano, 937), date back to 1504-1505, and deal with the administration of alum mines in Tolfa area, where Chigi had obtained an exploitation licence by the Pope since 1500. The missives offer an interesting example of merchant correspondence of the 16th century and represent an important source of technical lexicon concerning alum production.
