The short article proposes an examination of the second hemistich of v. 107 of Ausonius' Cento nuptialis on which critics are often divided. The expression pedibus per mutual nexis would be an integral part of the description of the husband's phallus during the wedding night and not the description of the entwined bodies of the two spouses. The tangency with Proba's Cento Vergilianus would no longer be explicable as an intentional parodic allusion to the Christian work.
