This study explores the first chapter of an unpublished novel by Goliarda Sapienza, "Love under Fascism", focusing on the image of her mother Maria Giudice as the narrative core. Through a critical and philological approach, the context of the writing is investigated to provide clues to the dating of the text. By analysing the language, variants, themes and narrative structure of the draft, new perspectives emerge on the representation of motherhood at an advanced stage of Sapienza's career. The reflections offered contribute to a better understanding of the author's poetics and highlight her profound understanding of mother-daughter dynamics. This study contributes to the critical discussion on Goliarda Sapienza by examining the significant role of the mother figure in her work from an archival perspective.
